Mahama has just told the EC to postpone the December 7 election and PPP supports him
According to Dr Mahama, going ahead with the election will put him and other candidates who were disqualified and later reinstated by the Electoral Commission (EC) at a disadvantage.
"We've been denied six weeks of active campaigning because we were fighting in court so the election must be postponed so it will be fair if the election is postponed so that we the reinstated candidates have time to campaign too", he said on Accra-based Asempa FM.
Apart from the disadvantage he said would arise from limited campaign time, he also claimed the voters’ register was bloated.
"The 2016 voter register is fraudulent and bloated. It will not make the process fair and since about "54% of Ghanaians are expecting violence in this year's election. It's good the election is postponed", he said.
His views were echoed by the PPP's policy advisor, Kofi Siaw Asamoah, who said the EC had not been fair in its application of the electoral laws.
"If we want a free and fair election, there should be a postponement and new voter register", adding that the "16 million names on the voter register makes it susceptible to rigging and padding".
