BREAKING NEWS: VICE PREZ AMISSAH ARTHUR STEPS DOWN THIS AFTERNOON [VIDEO + PHOTOS]
A group calling itself Volta Youth for Development in the Volta Region has described Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur as unfit for the job.
Convener for the group, Innocent Supremo Tetteh in an interview said although President Mahama has already chosen him as his running mate, they believe Mr Amissah Arthur's conduct for some time now will only reduce the party’s votes in the region.
“Vice President doesn’t understand his job because for the past few weeks, his comments to issues is more like just a mere party communicator” he stated.
According to Mr Supremo Tetteh, the Volta Youth for Development was rooting for the Speaker of Parliament, Doe Adjaho, and therefore are very disappointed in the President for his decision to retain him.
He said with the continued strong support of NDC by Voltarians despite their continuous neglect by the party in terms of development and ministerial position, they deemed it fit for the President to have at least chosen a Voltarian for the running mate position.
He could not fathom why Vice President Amissah Arthur was unable to respond the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice-Presidential candidate after his economic lecture but rather chose to attack him every time he mounts a platform.
Mr Amissah-Arthur announced to the teeming National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and other party gurus at the party's official manifesto launch that he was talked out of responding to the NPPs Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr Bawumia held a lecture at the National Theatre on the theme “The State of the Ghana Economy – A Foundation of Concrete or Straw".
There, he alleged that despite having more resources than any government ever in the history of Ghana, the Mahama-led government has been wasteful.
A scheduled public lecture under the theme – “Ghana’s Economy – Separating Truth from Fiction” to be delivered by Mr. Amissah-Arthur was rained off in the morning of the date.
The public was assured that a new date would be communicated in the coming weeks.
However, at their launch on Saturday, he disclosed that he would now respond to Dr Bawumia on political platforms wherever he goes.
"When I said I was going to respond, one of my former colleagues in Legon called me and said the man is doing politics, he is not doing economics so do not answer him with economics. Go on a political platform and tell him," he said
But the Volta Youth for Development believes that Mr. Amissah Arthur is refusing to respond to Dr Bawumia because he cannot match him.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has said he retained the former Governor of the Central Bank as his running mate because he is hardworking and capable.
