REAL FACT: MAHAMA WOULD LOSE DECEMBER POLLS FOR FREEING MONTIE 3 AMOAKO BAAH
Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah says President Mahama will lose the December polls for freeing the Montie 3 serving four months jail term for scandalising the Supreme Court.
President Mahama in consultation with the Council of State and in exercise of his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the Constitution, remitted the remainder of the prison sentence imposed on three persons: Salifu Maase (alias Mugabe), Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn, who were sentenced to four months' imprisonment and a fine of GHS10,000.00 each for contempt of court.
The remission takes effect is effective 26th August, 2016.
But Dr. Amoako Baah in an interview stated that the President’s pardon power is not a judicial power but rather was given to him to give people clemency.
In this instance, Dr. Amoako Baah said the President using his power has directly undermined the authority of the court.
He admits the President though was in a fix could have appealed to the justices for their advise before taking any decision.
“Mahama has a hooligan outlook because by this act, he has put the interest of the party supporters above the interest of the country. Mahama has endangered the country’s democracy and has not helped himself politically,” he stated on Accra-based Neat FM.
