WATCH VIDEO: ANGRY ELECTORATE BEAT UP NDC SECRETARY TO DEATH IN KOSOA
Some supporters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya East in the Central region have allegedly assaulted the Awutu Senya West Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Salim Essibu Yartey.
He said in an attempt to speak to some disgruntled electorates who were yet to re- register, a group of men wielding sticks and cutlasses pounced on him and subjected him to severe beatings.
“I didn’t go to the polling station to cause trouble but to make sure that those whose names have been deleted get the opportunity to register but in the process of talking to some of the people, a group of NPP supporters from nowhere pounced on me and beat me mercilessly as though I was a thief” he said.
Mr. Essibu Yartey said he was chased out of the polling station after the beatings.
He said the case has been reported to the Awutu Breku police where he was given a medical form for treatment.

But in a quick rebuttal, the NPP Secretary for Awutu Senya East, Michael Mensah on the same show denied the allegations by Mr. Essibu Yartey.
According to him, Mr. Essibu Yartey was not assaulted by any NPP supporters.
He added that Mr. Essibu Yartey tried to provoke the frustrated electorates whose names have been deleted from the voters register.
“No one laid hands on Essibu. His allegation is unfounded. He rather came to the polling station to provoke the electorates but was never beaten” he stated.
The EC on Monday July 18, 2016 begun exhibition and re-registration of voters who used the NHIS cards as a form of national identity to register ahead of the 2012 general elections.
56,772 names were deleted from the voters’ register upon a Supreme court order.
The Exhibition of voters’ register will end in August 7, 2016.
